In 2025 I tackled a personal project that's been kicking around in my head for ages - to design film posters for 3 movies that I'm actually in.
Long story short - when I was a kid, I did a bunch of TV ads, and between '99 and '03 I starred in 3 feature films shot in Cape Town. Shark Attack 2, a B-movie creature feature came first, then After the Rain, a dramatic thriller set in apartheid-era South Africa, and finally 12 Days of Terror, a period film about the 1916 shark attacks along the New Jersey coastline.
For each of the films, I tried to capture the feel of the film - so I went way over the top for Shark Attack 2, kept the mood somber and threatening for After the Rain, and gave a sense of approaching danger for 12 Days of Terror.
It was a trip to revisit these memories, and I had a great time exploring the films and creating the posters after all this time - a real full circle moment.
